The City of London now offers 2 services:
Compactor collections - general waste
Compactor collections - co-mingled
recycling
The City of London is currently able to collect waste and
recycling contained in compactor skips of up to 12 cubic metres
capacity. These skips cannot be supplied by the City of London, but
must be hired or owned and maintained by the waste producer.
The collection of compactor skips is a specialist service and it
is recommended that any City business considering this type of
service contact the Commercial Waste Team on 020 7606
3110 to arrange for an on site visit to discuss the collection
arrangements required.
General waste collections cost £150 plus VAT for up to 1 tonne
of waste. Waste over 1 tonne is charged at £0.90 per 10 Kg.
Recycling collections cost £120 plus VAT, loads are checked for
contamination. If contaminated, an additional disposal fee of £50
plus VAT is charged. This covers the cost of disposal to
landfill.

When arranging a waste collection the waste producer will be
asked to complete a document called a
Waste Transfer Note. This document is a legal requirement and
the City of London cannot collect commercial waste without it.
Open skip collections
The City of London does not allow open skips to be stored on the
highway and does not issue skip permits. Under Duty of Care
legislation, skip operators are required to be registered with
Defra.
However, Cleansing Services is able to offer open skips for
hire, provided they are stored off the highway, within the
curtilage of the waste producers property.
Open skips can be hired on a one off basis or as part of a
regular collection service.
Any City business wishing to hire an open skip will need to
complete a
Waste Transfer Note prior to the collection being
undertaken.
For a regular collection service the charge is £215 plus VAT,
for up to 1.5 tonnes of waste. Waste over 1.5 tonnes is charged at
£0.90 per 10Kg.
If you require a one-off skip, this will cost £240 plus VAT for
up to 1.5 tonnes of waste. For skips exceeding 1.5 tonnes, an
additional disposal cost of £0.90 per 10 Kg will apply.

A City business arranging any waste collection service will be
asked to identify the types and quantities of waste produced. The
reasons for this are twofold:
- To ensure that the City of London is licensed to collect and
dispose of the type of waste produced.
- To ensure that the correct resources are allocated to meet the
requirements of City businesses.
If at any time the nature of a waste producer’s waste changes it
is the responsibility of the waste producer to notify the City of
London.
The City of London offers information and advice, free of
charge, to City businesses who are considering the introduction of
new waste collection methods or equipment. Please contact
Cleansing Services on 020 7606 3110 to make use of this
service.
