Blue Plaques

The Square Mile has been the financial and commercial heart of Britain for centuries. Whilst parts of its heritage are preserved for us to see, eg the mediaeval Guildhall, there is much of the City’s architectural history which has been subject to redevelopment.

This ever changing nature is what makes this part of London such an exciting place to visit. You will almost certainly walk past at least one of the City’s Blue Plaques perhaps commemorating the location of a former Livery Hall, an historic event such as the birth place of the poet John Milton, or where one of Wren’s many churches existed before the Blitz.

This part of the website aims to bring to life the City’s history through the story created by those successful applications to erect a commemorative Blue Plaque .
